PROJECT Details

At the time of award, the reconstruction of New York City’s second-oldest suspension bridge was the single largest contract awarded by the New York City DOT. The original contract required a Perini-led joint venture to remove and replace the south roadway on the 2,800-foot-long bridge deck and to reconstruct the Manhattan and Brooklyn approaches. Added to the scope of the contract was the construction of 34 concrete pier supports for the New York City Transit Authority tracks, which run through the middle of the bridge. New York Construction News named the Williamsburg Bridge project the “Heavy Construction Project of the Year.”
