O&G is the construction manager for UCONN’s South Campus Infrastructure Project, which supports the ongoing evolution of UConn’s South Campus, including a new residence hall and the new School of Nursing.
The overall scope of this project will provide renewable infrastructure to the new South Campus Residence Hall and includes: new utilities including steam, electric, hot and chilled water, communications, sanitary, stormwater, and domestic water for the South Campus Residence Hall, and expansion of the South Campus Chiller Plant to accommodate a new geothermal heating and cooling system and to meet the needs of the Residence Hall and the new School of Nursing.
Engineered by Salas O’Brien, this $75M project commenced in June 2023 and is scheduled to be completed in May 2026.
Project elements of Package 1 include:
- replacement of existing campus direct buried steam and condensate distribution systems, which includes site demolition, asbestos abatement, and site restoration; and
- Installation of new primary and emergency electrical and telecommunication duct banks, low-temperature hot water distribution, and chilled water distribution.
Project elements of Package 2 include:

- Expansion of the existing South Campus Chiller Plant to provide new utilities to support the new South Campus Residence and Dining Hall project, including primary and emergency electrical duct banks, telecommunication duct banks, low-temperature hot water distribution, chilled water distribution, relocation of existing utilities in and around the existing South Campus Chiller Plant, ground loop heat exchange bore field, and associated site demolition and restoration.
- Repairing or replacing landscaping, walkways, and paved areas.
