PROJECT Details

The project involved two new buildings totaling approximately 55,000 SF tied to two existing buildings that included over 25,000 SF of renovation. This specialized learning environment required an artistic design solution by the project’s architect rather than replicating the architecture used in surrounding buildings on the UConn campus.

Since this project involved additions to and renovations of classroom buildings that were to remain in use year-round, close cooperation of all project team members was crucial. With little summer downtime and multiple exam periods, phasing was geared to class schedules. Innovative construction techniques were developed to minimize disruptions and save time. Controlled blasting of over 10,000 CY of rock, even during exams and within a few feet of classes, was done without a hitch.
