O&G Industries worked closely with Quinnipiac University, Centerbrook, and numerous engineers to develop the new York Hill Campus. The campus expansion includes extensive new suite-style residence buildings, a new student center, and a five-story parking garage. The first phase of the project involved completing the mass earthwork, site utilities, and the parking garage. The second phase of the project was the building work.
The new campus reflects the University’s renewed commitment to preserving the environment and educating its students about such issues. There are two major “green” initiatives in this project. The first is a wind garden composed of 42 vertical-axis wind turbines that will generate about 84,000 kilowatt hours per year. They are built into a garden, complete with stone benches providing an area for student gathering and reflection. The second is the placement of 1,232 photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the 475,000 SF Crescent Residence Hall, converting energy from the sun to electricity and generating about 250,000 kilowatt hours per year.
