Located on a seven-acre site in Groton, the new Marine Science Magnet High School is close to the Birch Plain Creek Estuary, Pine Island Bay, and Project Oceanology at Avery Point – all of which play an integral role in the magnet school program.
The 250-student school houses a large aquaculture facility and state-of-the-art science labs along with general classrooms, a library media/technology center, a ‘Great Room,’ CAD lab, an electronics lab, conference rooms, offices, a kitchen, a cafeteria, and other specialty rooms and display areas. The building’s HVAC system utilizes geothermal heat pumps. The existing school was abated and demolished at the start of construction to make way for the new structure.
