The Farmington High School project began during the Summer of 2022 and was completed in August 2024. The project consisted of building from the ground up a brand new, three-story, 236,000+SF Farmington High School that replaced the old school on the same campus. It is the largest construction project in the Town of Farmington’s history.
The new high school is efficient, compact, and organized in Learning Communities. Each Learning Community consists of classrooms and science rooms that open to a break-out space and contain additional small and large group teaming areas and a central faculty workroom. The north-south axis of the school connects the main entrance, facing the drop-off loops, to the rear staff entrance. It provides wide circulation and clear sight lines separating the core educational classrooms to the east from the larger group educational spaces (auditorium, music rooms, gymnasium) to the west. Program spaces in the high school include a multimedia production studio dubbed the Edge Studio, visual and performing arts, career and technical, and science and technology programs.
The design highlights an energy-efficient building with fewer entry points, new Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems, durable finishes throughout, ample circulation space, and extensive natural daylighting. The design is sensitive to the surrounding neighborhood and allows for secure public access for after-hours events.
