The joint venture of Tutor Perini/O&G has been awarded a contract valued at $1.18 billion by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the AirTrain Newark Replacement Program – Guideway and New Stations Project at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
The scope of work includes design and construction of a new 2.5-mile elevated rail structure for an automated people mover train system with three new stations that will replace the existing AirTrain, which has been in operation since 1996.
AirTrain Newark Replacement Program is a critical component of the operation of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The system carries on average 33,000 passengers per day or approximately 12 million passengers per year. It provides access to the Northeast Corridor Rail Link Station and provides customers and employees with the ability to transfer between terminals, parking lots and rental car facilities. The current AirTrain Newark, which has reached the end of its useful life, will be replaced with a new AirTrain system which will meet increasing passenger demands and enable world-class operations that provide for a 21st century customer experience for airport visitors and employees.
Tutor Perini is the managing partner in the joint venture with O&G serving as a 25% partner. Parsons Corporation will serve as the joint venture’s lead design subcontractor for the project.
