For years, the Romer family was a familiar sight at O&G’s South Main Repair Facility in Torrington, where Bret M. Romer worked alongside his sons, Eric and Bret B., each playing a different role in keeping O&G’s fleet ready for work.
Bret M. joined O&G in 2001, worked with the company through 2016, and returned in 2020 before retiring in December 2025. Eric joined O&G in 2013, and Bret B. followed in 2015. Today, Eric is a Mechanic & Lube Truck Operator, while Bret B. was recently promoted to Parts Manager.
One project brought all three of their roles together: O&G’s Concrete Mixer Refurbishment Project. Bret M. and Eric were rebuilding mixers before Bret B. joined the company. With Bret B. working on the parts side, the operation grew to include stocking the parts needed to assemble as many as five mixers from the ground up, helping give the trucks longer, more productive service.
For the Romers, working together came naturally.
“It’s the easiest thing; we all get along great and work well together,” Eric says.
Bret B. credits his father and brother with helping him learn along the way. “My Dad and Brother taught me so much,” he says. “It’s fulfilling to see our projects come to life.”
Bret M. also took pride in watching both sons grow from their first jobs into trusted teammates. His retirement in December closed the chapter on all three working together at South Main, but Eric and Bret B. remain part of the team today, with Bret B. recently promoted to Parts Manager. Their shared interest in building and fixing things extends beyond O&G. The Romers also enjoy tackling home improvements, vehicle restorations and other DIY projects together. Whether at South Main or at home, they share a hands-on approach and an appreciation for seeing a project come together.
