O&G’s Building Group recently joined Norwich Public Schools, city and state leaders, students, educators, and project partners to celebrate the start of construction on two new elementary schools: Uncas Elementary School and John M. Moriarty Elementary School.
O&G is serving as construction manager for both projects, which will be built on occupied school campuses. The work requires careful planning, communication, and coordination to maintain safe, active learning environments while construction moves forward.
Uncas Elementary School formally broke ground on Friday, June 5, followed by John M. Moriarty Elementary School on Monday, June 8. Later that week, each school hosted a separate student-focused celebration during the school day, giving students a front-row role in the future of their learning environment. Classes came outside one at a time, taking their turn tossing dirt to mark the start of construction on their new schools.
These events also served as the formal kickoff for O&G Builds, which will take place at both Uncas and Moriarty during the 2026-27 school year. Through the program, students will learn more about construction, the trades, teamwork, and the many roles involved in bringing a school from design to completion.

The new Uncas Elementary School will be built on the current Uncas campus and is designed to serve 548 students in Pre-K through Grade 5. The 85,631-square-foot building is scheduled to open in August 2027. Once the new school is complete, the existing building will be demolished.
The new John M. Moriarty Elementary School will follow a similar approach. The 81,530-square-foot building will also serve 548 students in Pre-K through Grade 5 and is scheduled to open in August 2027. The existing school will remain in use during construction and will be demolished after the new facility is complete.
The Uncas and Moriarty projects are part of Norwich’s larger investment in new and improved school facilities. O&G is proud to work alongside Norwich Public Schools, the City of Norwich, the School Building Committee, Construction Solutions Group, DRA Architects, and both school communities to help deliver safe, modern, and welcoming places to learn.
