The final session of this year’s O&G Builds program at Spaziano brought everything full circle, giving sixth-grade students their first look inside the new middle school they’ll be attending next fall.
After spending the past few months learning about construction in the classroom, students from Spaziano Elementary School traded desks for hard hats and stepped onto the job site for a guided tour of the building currently under construction just across the street.
Led by Greg Pomerleau, Project Manager; Cole Morgan, Superintendent; and Maribeth Buteau, Project Engineer, the tour connected directly to what students learned during earlier sessions, from reading tape measures to understanding basic construction concepts and jobsite safety. Students explored key areas including the main entrance, sixth-grade hallway, and a STEAM classroom, where the team explained the work currently underway and how different parts of the building come together.

The group then toured the seventh-grade wing, identified by its yellow color, and learned about structural components that help ensure the building’s long-term durability. In a science classroom, students were introduced to specialized features unique to that space and discussed how different materials are selected for performance and function. Throughout the tour, the team tied what students were seeing back to concepts they are learning in class, and the students remained engaged, asking questions and taking in their future school.

This three-session version of O&G Builds was tailored specifically for Spaziano’s sixth graders, building on an initial kickoff assembly and classroom lessons that connected construction concepts to their current studies. The site tour served as a hands-on finale, bringing those lessons to life in a meaningful way.
Located across from Spaziano Elementary School, built by O&G in 2023, the new middle school is on track for completion this spring. Thanks to the dedication of the project team, these students didn’t just get a preview of their new school, they gained a deeper understanding of how it was built and the people behind it.
