Volunteer Spotlight, Mark Caldarella: Deep Roots and Dedicated Service in Old Saybrook

For Mark Caldarella, community involvement isn’t a side activity—it’s part of who he is. A full-time resident of Old Saybrook for the past 14 years, Mark has built a life centered on service, both through his professional role and extensive volunteer commitments.

By day, Mark manages South Yard Marina and is currently part of the team supporting the Amtrak bridge replacement project. But beyond his work, he’s a cornerstone of civic life in Old Saybrook.

Mark serves as Chairman of the town’s Zoning Commission, helping shape responsible development and land use. He’s also a member of the Inland and Watercourses Commission, where he plays a key role in preserving the town’s natural resources. His leadership extends into local politics as Chairman of the Old Saybrook Republican Town Committee.

His dedication to service also includes past leadership roles with the Knights of Columbus at St. John’s Church, and involvement with the Old Saybrook Rotary Club. Currently, he serves on the board of Old Saybrook Senior Housing, advocating for the needs of the town’s aging population.

Whether through faith, government, or community development, Mark is consistently driven by a desire to give back to the town he calls home.
