Lynn Robotham didn’t plan on leading a holiday toy drive—but when the need arose, she stepped up without hesitation. In 2012, just two weeks before Christmas, the organizer of the Torrington Youth Services/DCF Christmas Toy Drive was laid off, leaving behind an office full of unwrapped toys and unfulfilled plans. Lynn took it upon herself to pick up where they left off—and she hasn’t looked back since.
As a Contract Administrator in the Building Division, Lynn is no stranger to logistics and coordination. But her role in the toy drive taps into something deeper: a commitment to making the holidays brighter for children in foster care or group homes, many of whom might otherwise go without gifts.
“These are kids who may not receive the items on their wish lists,” Lynn explains. “It’s important that they know someone is thinking of them and that they are cared for.”
What started as a sudden responsibility has become an annual act of compassion and community spirit. And Lynn doesn’t do it alone—the support she receives from her coworkers is a driving force behind the toy drive’s success. “O&G employees are extremely generous,” she says. “This wouldn’t be possible without them.” Thanks to Lynn’s leadership and the kindness of her colleagues, the toy drive continues to bring joy to children year after year—proof that a little heart and a lot of teamwork can make a big difference.
