Spotlight on Safe Driving: Meet George Molina, 2024 O&G Tractor Trailer Driver of the Year

With 21 years of experience behind the wheel at O&G, George Molina knows the roads as well as anyone. Having spent 17 years at the Danbury Mason division and another 4 years driving a triaxle in Bridgeport, George has built a career on hard work, steady hands, and a passion for the open road.

Finding His Path in the Industry
George’s journey into the construction world started with family – specifically, working for his father-in-law’s construction company. It was here that he first got a taste for the fast-paced, hands-on work of construction and trucking. That early experience set him on a path that would eventually lead to being named Tractor Trailer Driver of the Year for 2024 – a title he counts as his proudest career achievement.

Always on the Move
For George, the most interesting part of his job is the constant change of scenery. “Going to different places every day – I just love being on the move,” he says. It’s a perfect fit for someone who thrives on variety and the freedom of the open road.

Skills for Success
When it comes to the skills that have kept him safe and successful over the years, George keeps it simple: put in the work, learn from your mistakes, and don’t make the same one twice. It’s a straightforward but powerful approach that’s served him well for over two decades.

What Others Might Not Realize
While George loves his work, he acknowledges that driving an 80,000-pound truck comes with its challenges. “I wish more people understood how hard it is to stop a truck that weighs 80,000 pounds,” he says – a reminder that commercial drivers are constantly making split-second safety decisions to keep everyone on the road safe.

Why O&G Stands Out
For George, the best part of working at O&G is the people. “When you enjoy the company of your co-workers, it makes the workday much more enjoyable,” he notes. It’s this sense of camaraderie that has kept him with the company for over 20 years.

Advice for Aspiring Construction Drivers
For those looking to get into the construction field, George’s advice is to go the extra mile – literally and figuratively. “Always be willing to do more than what’s required,” he says. “Going that extra mile means a lot.”

Life Beyond the Wheel
Outside of work, George is a bit of a thrill-seeker. He’s a fan of all things fast and loud, like NASCAR and drag racing. His ideal weekend involves hitting the road with his wife for an overnight motorcycle trip – the perfect combination of speed, freedom, and adventure.
