Since joining O&G’s Building Group in January 2025, Matthew O’Rourke has brought with him over a decade of experience in mechanical and electrical drafting—and a fresh perspective shaped by time spent working on the subcontractor side of the construction industry.
Now serving as a VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Coordinator, Matthew’s transition to O&G was driven by a desire for something more dynamic. “I was looking for a new experience and the ability to see different aspects of the construction industry,” he says. And so far, the move has delivered. “I’m learning a lot,” he shares. “I have daily contact with very experienced and knowledgeable people whom I have the privilege to work alongside. The work is more rewarding than what I was doing before—the multifaceted nature of the job keeps it interesting.”
One of the most fulfilling aspects of his role is working closely with subcontractors to support their drawing and clash resolution needs. “Having been on the other side of the table and seen my job done poorly, I aim to take those experiences and use them to run an efficient and stress-free process,” he says. His ability to empathize with subcontractors gives him a unique edge—he understands the importance of clarity, efficiency, and collaboration.
Matthew’s day-to-day responsibilities involve juggling a suite of planning and modeling programs, including Revisto, Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, and BlueBeam. His technical toolkit is vast, and his ability to integrate these tools makes him a vital part of the coordination process.
Outside of work, Matthew grounds himself in faith and hands-on creativity. “I try to pray every day to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” he shares. In his downtime, he enjoys hiking—and in a nod to old-world craftsmanship, he’s even built a blacksmithing forge in his garage.
With a thoughtful approach to problem-solving and a strong sense of purpose, Matthew is already making a meaningful impact at O&G.
