Spotlight On Corporate Social Responsibility: O&G’s Meaningful Partnership with SoundWaters

At O&G, we are committed to building lasting relationships with local organizations that strengthen communities, foster education, and preserve the environment. One such entity is with SoundWaters, a vital nonprofit, environmental education organization located in Stamford, CT.

Long before SoundWaters built their state-of-the-art facility at Boccuzzi Park, they operated out of Cove Beach, educating local youth and advocating for the protection of Long Island Sound. As the South End of Stamford began to transform—led in part by BLT’s development of the waterfront—SoundWaters expanded their outreach, looking to connect with new neighbors and donors. It was during this pivotal time that O&G began its collaboration with the organization.

In those early days, SoundWaters launched HarborFest, a celebration designed to bring the Stamford community to the water’s edge. O&G proudly supported these efforts by sponsoring historic harbor tours, helping residents and visitors alike appreciate the harbor’s rich maritime heritage.

When SoundWaters made the ambitious leap to construct their new educational facility, O&G was there once again—providing materials (at a fair cost) and supporting their vision to create a hub for environmental education and community engagement.

Even during periods of transition, O&G remained a steadfast partner. When Danbury schools lost funding for student transportation to the SoundWaters facility, SoundWaters reached out—and O&G stepped in. Thanks to O&G’s decision to fund transportation expenses, students continued to access hands-on learning experiences on Stamford Harbor, connecting classroom lessons with real-world environmental science.

Most recently, SoundWaters included TJ Oneglia, Vice President of Construction Materials, in a community presentation about the harbor’s evolving use, highlighting our shared role in balancing commercial activity with environmental stewardship. Their respect for our industry and recognition of its place in the harbor’s ecosystem speaks volumes about our mutually supportive relationship.

While we may not be SoundWaters’ largest financial backer, our consistent engagement, practical support, and shared commitment to Stamford’s waterfront make this partnership impactful. SoundWaters’ youth programs open doors to water-dependent career paths and broaden understanding of industrial uses of the harbor—like ours—within a sustainable future.

Bob Mazzone, VP of Development at SoundWaters, recently shared good news about the organization’s busiest-ever school year. He highlighted how students are not only learning about their environment but also gaining the confidence to see themselves as active participants in shaping its future—a powerful testament to the value of immersive, hands-on education. “Thank you for everything you do for SoundWaters,” Bob wrote, expressing his appreciation for the continued support that helps make these transformative experiences possible. We’re proud of the role we’ve played, and continue to play, in supporting SoundWaters’ mission. Together, we’re helping shape the next generation of environmental stewards and industry leaders—right here on Stamford Harbor.
