Waterbury Facility Joins Bogue Road in Achieving Elite Energy Efficiency Status
We’re excited to share that O&G’s Waterbury Asphalt Plant has earned the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR® certification—marking O&G’s second location to achieve an EPA ENERGY STAR certification, the Bogue Road facility achieved the Challenge for Industry in 2023.
This designation places the Waterbury plant among the top 25% of asphalt plants nationwide in terms of energy performance. It reflects the great work of our teams across the company who are dedicated to reducing energy use and improving sustainability.
This milestone reflects the hard work and dedication of our Waterbury crew, including Chris Jurzynski (plant operator) Joao Goncalves, (loader operator), Jason Palmquist (night plant operator), Wayne Stickney (maintenance), Wayne Stickney Jr. (maintenance) and Eric Battis (maintenance).
Several energy-saving upgrades included:
- Insulating the AC tank, valves, and jumper lines
- Upgrading burner controls and the baghouse fan system
- Conducting and repairing compressed air leak issues
Behind the scenes, Matt Dmyterko, Director of Environmental Compliance; Greg Nadeau, Environmental Compliance Specialist; and Tony Blanchard, VP of Plant Equipment, led the charge in coordinating the effort in reducing energy consumption and increasing plant efficiency.
“This is another important step in our ongoing work to make O&G’s operations cleaner and more energy-efficient,” said Brad Oneglia, Vice President, Asphalt Paving. “This recognition is a win for our team and a win for the environment—it shows that we’re not just paving roads, we’re paving the way for more sustainable operations.”
Great work, team! Let’s keep building smarter, cleaner, and better.
