Reflecting on an engaging Construction Safety Week

As we reflect on this year’s Construction Safety Week, the Officers and Directors of O&G would like to take a moment to recognize and thank every one of our dedicated team members for their ongoing commitment to putting safety first. Safety is a core value upon which our company is built. It shapes who we are, defines our work environment, and ensures that each of us can return home safely at the end of every day.

Throughout the week, our leadership and safety teams led several safety standdowns across our operations – from quarries, asphalt and concrete plants, repair shops, and mason yards to construction sites, –engaging with teams about their personal commitments to safety. These conversations served as powerful reminders that safety is about communication, accountability, and a shared responsibility for one another’s well-being.

We heard a range of impactful commitments, like those from employees who said they would make sure to get a good night’s rest, recommit to situational awareness by checking left, right, and behind when operating equipment in busy yards, and utilize three points of contact when exiting haul trucks – especially important for those recovering from injuries. Others committed to keeping their phones in their glove boxes to eliminate distractions, using their horns when coming around corners, replacing worn cut-resistant gloves, and backing into their parking spaces to improve visibility. And another committed to inspecting the berms in the quarry after a recent heavy rainstorm to ensure proper berm heights.

These commitments reflect the genuine care and responsibility our teams have for themselves, their colleagues, and their families at home. This spirit of looking out for one another is what makes O&G such a special place to work.

As we move forward, we encourage everyone to ask themselves today, and every day, the following:

• What am I going to do today to work safely?

• Will I hold myself or a colleague accountable?

• Will I be willing to speak up when it comes to a safety issue, question, or concern?

• And most importantly, why am I choosing to work safely?

Thank you for being part of a team that leads by example and prioritizes safety every day. Together, we’re not just building great projects, but a culture of care and accountability that sets the standard in our industry.
