PRESS RELEASE: O&G’s Waterbury Asphalt Plant Earns EPA Energy Star® Certification for Superior Energy Efficiency

O&G’s Waterbury Asphalt Plant Earns EPA Energy Star® Certification for Superior Energy Efficiency
Recognized Among the Top 25% of Asphalt Plants Nationwide

Waterbury, CT: O&G Industries, Inc., a leading provider in construction services and products in the Northeast, is proud to announce that its Waterbury Asphalt Plant has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® certification—marking the second O&G facility to receive an EPA ENERGY STAR certification. The company’s Bogue Road facility, encompassing the asphalt plant, ready-mix concrete plant, wash plant and scale house/office achieved EPA’s Challenge for Industry in 2023. This latest recognition further demonstrates O&G’s commitment and leadership in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.

ENERGY STAR certification signifies that the Waterbury plant performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict performance standards set by the EPA.

“This second certification reaffirms our company-wide commitment to reducing energy use and improving the sustainability of our operations,” said Brad Oneglia, Vice President, Asphalt Paving. “We’re proud of our teams for taking meaningful steps to improve energy performance in a way that benefits both our communities and the environment.”

Achieving ENERGY STAR certification required significant investment and effort at the Waterbury plant, including system upgrades and operational improvements. These included insulation of critical components, upgrading advanced burner control systems and variable frequency drive (VFD) technology, and compressed air system enhancements—all which led to substantial gains in energy efficiency.

The certification effort was led by O&G’s Environmental Compliance and Plant Equipment teams, working in close collaboration with the Waterbury operations staff.

ENERGY STAR, launched by the EPA in 1992, is a voluntary program that promotes energy efficiency as a means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Thousands of facilities across the U.S. have earned ENERGY STAR certification for their commitment to energy performance.
