O&G Takes First Step In Fleet Maintenance Modernization

O&G is installing Samsara fleet operations technology on 352 vehicles and pieces of heavy equipment. Samsara helps construction companies streamline operations and optimize their fleet vehicles and equipment. Using telematics hardware and software, Samsara provides real-time data and insights into fleet tracking, preventative maintenance, dispatch, fuel usage, and equipment utilization.

Pat Mancini, Vice President of Fleet Maintenance, joined O&G in August 2024. In his previous role as Director of Fleet Maintenance for Bozzuto’s Inc. in Cheshire, he helped modernize the company’s fleet maintenance division through innovative programs and the introduction of telematics, which boosted efficiency and communication. The installation of Samsara is the initial step in the comprehensive modernization of O&G’s fleet under Pat’s leadership.

“As the company continues to grow, the importance of safety, effective communication, streamlined procedures, and operational efficiencies has become increasingly significant. Samsara will not only provide us with a better camera system, but the technology that Samsara includes in their platform will allow us to expand our fleet without having to upgrade our choice of on-board vehicle telematics,” explained Pat.

The system integrates with leading construction equipment manufacturers like Caterpillar, enabling seamless data collection on engine diagnostics, fuel usage, and fault codes without needing additional hardware.

“Samsara will enable us to incorporate existing platforms into its software, streamlining navigation and reducing costs, while giving multiple O&G team members access to these platforms from a single interface,” said Pat.

Other key features include GPS tracking for vehicles and assets, customizable maintenance schedules to extend equipment lifespan, and real-time notifications for diagnostics to minimize downtime. Samsara’s platform also provides insights into fuel consumption, idling, and cost management, helping businesses make data-driven decisions to improve efficiency. The platform also prioritizes worker safety with benchmarking tools, safety scorecards, and incident alerts for proactive safety measures.

Keith Woolford, Foreman, and Wil Bova, Mechanic, from our South Main repair facility in Torrington, have trained a team of foremen and mechanics at our locations across the state on how to install the units, what to look for on initial power up, and how to use the software. Working together, the team will ensure units have been installed on all of our equipment by early April. Special thanks to: Pete Yablonski, Foreman and Installer, Frank Bonnillia, Installer, in Bridgeport; Kevin Edwards, Foreman, and Curt Knapik, Installer, In Stamford; Aaron Vroom in Danbury, Mike Foley in New Milford, and Geoff Smith, Foreman in Southbury leading a group of techs at that location.
