Finance & Insurance Intern
University of Connecticut, Business Intelligence, Class of 2026
Trevor Rinaldi joined O&G this summer as a Finance and Insurance intern and has quickly immersed himself in the numbers behind the business. He’s been working on a variety of projects that involve analyzing data to understand how different areas of the company operate. “It’s been a great learning experience,” he says. “Being able to analyze O&G from the finance side has helped me grasp how the company functions across so many levels.”
Working across both finance and risk management, Trevor has appreciated the chance to apply his skills in new ways—and explore paths he hadn’t previously considered. “I hadn’t thought about a future in the construction industry before this, but after two months here, I could definitely see it as a possibility.” One of the biggest surprises for him was just how big and multifaceted the company really is. “There are so many moving parts. It’s been challenging but really rewarding to piece it all together.”
Trevor credits several mentors for shaping his experience this summer. On the finance side, he says Zac Huxley has been “an incredible mentor” who gave him space to grow while guiding him through new projects. He also appreciated the support of Sarah Dickinson and Dan Cretella in risk management. Their hands-on approach, including organizing site visits to jobs and plants, helped him connect what he was learning in the office to real-world operations.
This experience has broadened Trevor’s outlook on his future career. “I’ve learned not to pigeonhole myself into one category. Balancing finance and insurance work has shown me the value of staying flexible and building a diverse skill set.”
His advice for future interns? “Take lots of notes and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here is really helpful and understands that this is a learning experience.” And as for a fun fact? Trevor proudly claims the title of world-class bagel toaster. “Golden brown every time,” he says.
