Building Group Intern – ACES at Bassett Road, North Haven
Roger Williams University, Construction Management, Class of 2026
Meet Jackson Slattery, a Construction Management major at Roger Williams University and a returning intern with O&G. After previously working with the Building Group Estimating team last summer and over winter break, Jackson is back this year gaining more hands-on experience at the ACES at Bassett Road project—and finding even more reasons to pursue a career in construction.
Jackson’s internship has immersed him in the day-to-day operations of a live construction project. He’s been busy managing submittals, reviewing RFIs, attending meetings, and supporting various site activities. “I enjoy seeing how this part of the construction process works and what it takes to make a job run smoothly,” he says.
Coming into the role without much prior experience in construction, Jackson admits the learning curve was steep. “A lot of things were brand new to me, and I wasn’t sure how things were done or even what they were,” he explains. “But over time, I started to understand more and feel more comfortable. I still have a lot to learn, but I’ve come a long way.”
That learning process has helped Jackson discover that construction is more than just an interest—it’s his future. “After my internships with O&G, I’ve realized I definitely want to stay in construction. I enjoy being a part of the process and seeing how everything comes together.”
What’s made the biggest difference in his experience? The people. Jackson credits the entire ACES project team—including Brian Pettway, Tim Chan, Frank Rubino, Nora Campo and the foremen on site—for making him feel supported and for being so willing to teach. “Everyone’s been super helpful and great to me,” he says.
His decision to pursue an internship with O&G was influenced by glowing recommendations from family friends and his own past experience. “I’ve always heard great things about O&G. I liked the people and found the work interesting, so I decided to come back.”
For future interns, Jackson has some straightforward advice: “Get what you want out of the internship. If there’s something you want to try, just ask. The more you explore, the better prepared you’ll be to figure out what you want to do.”
Outside of work, Jackson enjoys playing tennis, golfing, and spending quality time with family and friends.
With a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in the field, Jackson is building a solid foundation for a bright future in construction.
