Building Futures: EdAdvance Tours O&G

On April 25, 2025, O&G Industries hosted a tour for EdAdvance, one of Connecticut’s six Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs), which supports local school districts by providing educational services, professional development, and career-connected learning opportunities. The day provided EdAdvance staff with a firsthand look at career paths within the construction industry. Beginning at O&G’s Main Office, the group received an overview of the company’s history, various divisions, and the wide range of careers available – from trades and technical roles to office positions.

The tour continued at the Torrington Middle High School project, where Mike Zerio and Mike Sasso guided the group through the newly completed high school and the under-construction middle school. The visit offered insight into the planning, coordination, and skilled craftsmanship required to bring large-scale educational facilities to life.

Next, the group visited South Main Repair, where Keith Woolford provided a behind-the-scenes look at the critical role of equipment maintenance in supporting O&G’s projects. The final stop was the Southbury Quarry, where Dave Guerrera explained the importance of raw materials in the construction process and the career opportunities available within the quarrying sector.

After the tour, Taylor Van Antwerp, Career-Connected Learning Coordinator for EdAdvance, expressed her appreciation in a note highlighting the impact of the day’s experiences:

“ I wanted to express my sincere thanks for the fantastic EED tour of the O&G sites! It was truly insightful and made it clear that O&G offers incredible career paths for students, whether they enter directly after high school or after further training or a degree.”

Taylor also praised the team’s willingness to share their time and expertise.

O&G’s collaboration with EdAdvance reflects a shared commitment to preparing the next generation for meaningful careers, ensuring students have the skills and connections needed to succeed.
