Ribbon Cut On Simsbury’s Latimer Lane School

After five years of planning and two years of construction, the town of Simsbury celebrated the completion of the $39 million expansion and renovation project at Latimer Lane School.

The renovation of Latimer Lane Elementary School is the first step of an overarching elementary renewal program for Simsbury’s public schools. The Latimer Lane School, first built in 1962, was identified in a long-term facilities study conducted by the Board of Education as the building most in need of significant capital investment.

Designed by Tecton Architects, the existing Latimer Lane School was “renovated as new,” with a refresh of all existing building components and additions totaling nearly 30,000 SF. The updated facility includes enhanced school safety and improved site circulation through dedicated parent and bus drop-off loops. The interior environment has been strategically planned to consolidate shared core spaces at the center of the building and provide a separate entrance to allow for off-hours community use of the gym, cafeteria, and stage areas. Central courtyards and secure, age-appropriate play areas will provide opportunities for outdoor learning and environmental engagement. Work at Latimer Lane School, which serves grades K-6, kicked off in December 2022 and wrapped up shortly after the start of this school year.
