O&G recently granted a wish to 10-year-old Make-A-Wish recipient Devaughn from Bridgeport, who dreamed of a backyard transformation. Due to his sickle cell anemia, Devaughn is unable to camp, which is one of his dreams, so this makeover brings the camping experience to him, complete with a fishing pond, a bike riding area, and a huge playscape. Other upgrades included clearing the backyard of debris, fixing the existing fence, and adding new landscaping. The project was finished just in time for its unveiling, with O&G representatives – Brad Oneglia, Vice President of Asphalt Paving; Dani Alves, Mason Facility Manager; and Eliza Baron, Marketing & Communications Manager – on hand to surprise Devaughn when he returned from school.
Devaughn’s mother, a single parent of four children and a CNA working long hours expressed her heartfelt thanks for making her son’s wish come true, noting it’s a relief that he now has a safe place to play.
This wish became reality through O&G’s Centennial Giving Campaign, where employees selected their favorite charities for donations. Make-A-Wish Connecticut was among the chosen organizations, and over the past year, wishes have been funded by O&G’s contribution. More wishes will be granted in the coming months, and we look forward to sharing more heartwarming stories.
