On December 19, during an awards ceremony at the Farmington Police Department George Givens, Superintendent, was presented with the Life Saving Citizen’s Award by the Chief of Police for his swift and decisive actions which saved the life of a severely injured carpenter on the Farmington High School construction site. The man had accidentally cut his arm with a circular saw and had lost a considerable amount of blood, but when George got to him, he applied a makeshift tourniquet and provided direct pressure to control arterial bleeding, preventing further blood loss and stabilizing the injured individual until emergency services arrived.
George was also acknowledged for his calm demeanor, initiative, and willingness to act during a critical situation, which likely saved the carpenter’s life.
Chief Colin Ryan said, “I commend George for his exemplary performance, and I am pleased to pass on this job well done!” The carpenter attended the ceremony and expressed profound gratitude to George, saying that his kids also thanked him for saving their father’s life. We are extremely thankful for George’s dedication to job-site safety and his swift action that saved this man’s life. George, you truly are a hero!
