University of Maine, Construction Engineering Technology
Tell us about your experience at O&G so far. What are you currently working on?
So far, my experience at O&G has been great! O&G welcomed me warmly and the project team at Farmington High School has taught me so much. They welcome questions, encourage new ideas, facilitate direct exposure to the field, and allow me to take on small tasks/projects to improve my skills. My work so far has consisted of RFIs, submittals, transmittals, creating placeholders, marking up drawings, and more. Every day is different, and I get to work closely with everyone on the project team.
What inspired you to consider an internship with O&G?
O&G has an amazing culture, career opportunities in various construction fields, and a reputation for making sure interns get the full learning experience. Also, my family has been with O&G for years, and growing up, I’d hear about what they did and how the company was such a great fit for them. Knowing my interests and career goals, he recommended I apply.
What inspired you to consider a future career in the construction industry?
I started off studying psychology and mathematics at Georgetown University. After COVID and talking to some people in the field, I decided to change my career path and go into an engineering-related field. I graduated a year early with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Mathematics and began studying Construction Engineering. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in college.
What are your plans after graduation?
As of right now, I plan to work as a Project Engineer and find ways to continue my education. Whether that be earning my P.E., staying up to date with new technologies, etc. I ultimately plan to find a position that challenges me and allows for growth.
