2024 INTERN SPOTLIGHT: Jackson Slattery, Building Group Estimating

Roger Williams University, Class of 2026, Construction Management

Tell us about your experience at O&G so far. What are you currently working on:?

I have enjoyed O&G so far. I like how even though it’s a very large company, everyone knows each other and is very friendly. Everyone in the estimating department has been very nice and helpful to me. They are all eager to teach me, and I enjoy spending my day here. I am involved in the new Westerly, Rhode Island school, and the Manchester Public Library. In these jobs, I have learned takeoff of all different divisions, from general trades to steel and concrete. I have also been involved in meetings with subcontractors and learning how we choose who is awarded the job.

What Inspired you to consider an internship with O&G?

I liked the company’s diversity, between schools, healthcare, industrial, roads/bridges, and quarries. I also liked the company’s size, how they are large enough to work all around Connecticut and surrounding states, but not so large that you’d never see/meet the owners.

What inspired you to consider a future career in the construction industry?

Since I was a kid, I’ve liked watching the machines and the people putting everything together to make one big building. I also wanted a job where something new was going on, and I wasn’t constantly doing the same things every day.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I want to work at a company that I like and where I enjoy going to work every day. So far, I have enjoyed my time here, so hopefully, O&G will be the company I work for.
