Women In Construction Week Spotlight: Kate Stakum

Kate Stakum

I AM A WOMAN IN CONSTRUCTION
Kate Stakum, Facility Inventory Control, Southbury Repair Garage

Tell us about your role.

I oversee the parts departments and am responsible for all aspects of inventory, including ordering and stocking all parts for repairs and routine maintenance and maintaining relationships with our vendors. I also assist our mechanics with getting the parts they need for a job from our stock room. I am responsible for making sure the stock room is organized and clean.

How did you get started in the construction industry?

I worked for another company for 25 years, managing and running inventories. My father retired from O&G years ago. He loved working here and had so many nice things to say. I was looking for a career change, so I applied to O&G when I saw a job opening that suited me. I am so happy I did! Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful. My colleagues have shown me the ropes, taught me, and answered all my questions. I love the fact that I learn something new every day. I love being a part of the Southbury repair garage team. I am so excited to be a part of the O&G Family!

What’s your advice for other women looking to enter the construction industry?

If you want something, go after it and be yourself, and the rest will follow.
