O&G RECEIVES GIFT OF WOODBURY QUARRY PAINTING

A beautiful painting of the Woodbury Quarry was recently gifted to O&G by Susan Domanico in honor of the company’s 100th anniversary. Susan is the daughter of Ralph Cole, who formerly owned the quarry property off Park Road and Bacon Pond Road, which he inherited from his mother.

Susan’s childhood home was at 166 Bacon Pond Road, close to the quarry. As kids, she and her brother searched the quarry for amethyst, prehnite, and fossils. Their father introduced them to the equipment and heavy machinery so they would gain an appreciation of the value of the quarry in building the local infrastructure. She has many other fond memories of growing up in the quarry.

Ralph was very proud of the quarry and used to take visitors on tours of the property. One such visitor was Susan’s friend Bruno Baran, the painting artist. He was so moved by the beauty of the quarry that he painted it as a gift for Ralph in 1992. It has hung in Susan’s parent’s house and then hers since then. It will now be proudly displayed at O&G’s headquarters.

Bruno is a traditional landscape portrait painter whose work has been compared to John Sloan and other Ashcan painters of the early 20th century. He graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art (Cum Laude) and has studied with Raoul Middleman, Leonard Bahr, and Joseph Sheppard, among others. You can learn more about Bruno and view his work at brunobaranfinearts.com.

O&G is grateful to Susan for this thoughtful gift.
