Manchester, CT: O&G Industries recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Keeney Elementary School in Manchester, CT. The project team was joined by school staff and students, officials from the town of Manchester including Mayor Jay Moran, as well as representatives from the architectural studio TSKP.
The elementary school will be both a 56,400 SF renovation as well as a new addition project. The school will highlight several new features including new classrooms with casework, a new gymnasium, and cafeteria, as well as a central courtyard and outdoor basketball court. Furthermore, the project will utilize Photovoltaic (Solar Cells) and Geothermal energy to minimize its carbon footprint, while supporting O&G’s commitment to sustainable construction.
Project Owners Rep and Facilities Manager for the Town of Manchester Chris Tills acknowledged his gratitude for Manchester’s community support of the project. Additionally, he emphasized the project’s effort toward sustainability, as the new elementary school will become one of Manchester’s net-zero schools; “This isn’t just a building where students go to school… This will be the third net-zero school in Manchester. We are leading in many ways in our community showing that Manchester is investing in our schools.”
