Donation Marks the 26th Year O&G Employees Support the Toy Drive benefiting Local Nonprofit Organizations
On Monday, December 8th the Torrington Fire Department picked up a donation of toys from O&G’s headquarters on Wall Street in Torrington. The toy pickup marked the 26th year that O&G has participated in the Fire Departments “Christmas for Children” campaign which benefits local nonprofit organizations.
The donation of over 500 toys will directly benefit F.I.S.H., Inc. (Friends in Service to Humanity of Northwestern Connecticut, Inc.) – a local nonprofit organization that strives to provide the basic needs of those in need throughout Northwestern Connecticut. According to Robin King, Program Manager at Fish: “Without the generosity of the community, and organizations like O&G, the families who reach out to us for help would be waking up Christmas morning with broken dreams and no ‘faith in Santa Claus’.”
The annual Toy Drive is an employee-driven campaign at O&G. Sharon Okraska, O&G’s Toy Drive Coordinator stated: “We raise money through a variety of employee fundraisers including soup and sandwich lunches and dress down Friday’s held throughout the year. Our employees are extremely generous and dedicated to the community. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of our employees and retirees like Shirley Durante, who has continued her support in coordinating various aspects of the toy drive. Shirley shops for toys throughout the year and hunts for bargains in order to make our employees contribution go as far as possible for the kids”.
In addition to the Christmas for Kids Toy Drive, O&G also conducts a toy drive to benefit the Torrington Youth Service Bureau (TYSB) which provides toys and clothing to over 125 children living in foster and group homes throughout Greater Torrington. The TYSB Toy Drive is made possible by the generosity of our employees – from O&G office staff, corporate officers, mason store and repair shop employees, to truck drivers.
